Did you ever wonder if there was an eco-friendly way to heat your home? Could there be a state-of-the-art cooling system for your house? So many times, we hear the word geothermal, but we are left with a feeling of confusion. Let’s take a closer look at geothermal and see if it is right for you!

What is geothermal energy?

When you hear the word geothermal, three words should come to mind: heat, renewable, and Earth. Geothermal energy is the cutting-edge process of extracting heat energy from beneath the Earth’s surface and converting that very energy into renewable energy. Once the energy is contained, it can be applied to many applications, including, but not limited to, heating and cooling a house.

How does a geothermal system heat and cool a house?

The magic lies in the heat pump and the pipe system below the ground. The pipe system could be a closed loop system or an open loop system. For a closed loop system, a sequence of pipes is installed below the ground which will encompass and circulate a water solution. The water solution absorbs the heat from the ground and flows to the heat pump. At this point, the heat pump can continue to heat the house, or the pump can change direction or reverse the cycle from heat to cool. Now, if you have groundwater available, you may have the option to do an open loop system. An open loop system still uses a heat pump but draws from a drilled well and cycles the water back into the environment.

How does a geothermal system benefit the homeowner?

After a geothermal system is installed, the amount of maintenance involved is dramatically cut in half compared to a standard HVAC system. By harnessing the energy beneath the Earth, geothermal energy also offers a close to zero approach for carbon emissions. With such an efficient way of cooling and heating your home, some may say this type of system is exactly what they are looking for.

Should we have a geothermal well drilled?

It’s not always easy to know whether to have a well drilled or not. It may even be tough to find a reliable driller that will point you in the right direction. The team at Amber Water Pros has the expertise and training to help you make an accurate decision. We specialize in projects of all sizes and our certified trained staff can carefully assess your geothermal plan. Call or text us today, to see if a geothermal well is right for you!
